Cheesy Tater Tots – So Good, You’ll Be Making Them Again and Again!

Who doesn’t love Tater Tots? They’re crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside — what’s not to love? These flavorful Cheesy Tots are so good that once you taste them, you’ll be making them again and again!

They’re great as an appetizer or even as a snack. Sometimes I like to add a slice of American cheese and broil them for a few minutes for some tasty cheese tots!

A simple recipe for Tater Tots. Great recipe to freeze as well. Try these tasty Tater Tots, so good, sometimes I like to add a slice of American cheese and broil for a few minutes for some tasty cheese tots.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 large baking potato
  • Canola oil as needed for frying
  • 2 tbsp potato starch
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup minced shallots
  • 1 tbsp minced chives
  • 2 slices cooked crumbled bacon (or use baco as substitute)
  • 4 oz Brie or American Cheese
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Lightly coat the potato in oil, season with salt and pepper, pierce it a few times with a fork and bake at 350 degrees until three-quarters cooked, approximately 40 minutes.
  2. Remove potato and let it cool to room temperature.
  3. Peel and box-grate the potato.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the grated potato, potato starch, egg, shallots, chives and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In another small bowl, thoroughly incorporate the chopped bacon and Brie.
  6. Fill a one-ounce ring mold halfway with the potato mixture,
  7. then place a small scoop of the cheese and bacon mixture in the center and top
  8. Top with more potato. Press down to firmly compact the potato and unmold.
  9. Repeat to use all ingredients
  10. Fill a heavy skillet with enough vegetable oil to cover the tots. Heat oil at medium high, approximately 325 degrees, add tots and cook until golden brown. They start to float when they are done cooking.
